Film and Script Parallels

While watching the film Rabbit Proof Fence for the second time I noticed few parallels, but at the same time watching it for the second time i got to see all the smaller details. I studied Australia last year in English and learned much about the history between the Native Australians and the English who colonized.

Watching the film this time for scenery and details I noticed things i missed when watching it or content, such as the stark difference of the dry cracked earth in the scenes with Natives and the very dark shady proper indoor scenes with the English. Specifically the scene when Neville is showing the slides to the English women who are sitting in summer dresses and hats drinking afternoon tea while at the same time a native women is loosing her children in order to “phase out” the color of their skin and educated them on the ways of the white civilization.

It was helpful to see a visual representation of the class differences between the majors, captains, and Governor types in the film, especially since they are all intermixed in the script. THe way the English talked to the Natives in this film also paints a very clear picture as to how the prisoners would have been treated during the play Our Countries Good.
